David Allan Hamilton

David Allan Hamilton is a writer and writing coach living in Ottawa, Ontario. For as long as he can remember, he's been fascinated by three things: railways, rocks, and writing. Those interests have taken him to various worlds, along a diverse career path, and allowed him to explore the big questions we all face, namely:
-
who are we?
-
what does it mean to be human?
-
what are we doing here?
His stories often combine his love of the natural world and the endless possibilities of science fiction, and his characters reflect many of his own struggles. As he often says, "A little bit of me is in every character I create... the good, bad, and ugly." Writers often suggest that the act of writing is therapeutic, and if that's the case, David likely requires more supervision. His themes often reflect the discovery of inherent courage that the characters didn't know they had, along with darker elements of power-mongering, manipulation, and moral ambiguity. Thus, his stories focus on character and our own human needs, weaknesses, and struggles.

David has been a government worker, management consultant, and a contract instructor at Carleton University. When he's not writing his own tales, he offers writing workshops and coaches other writers to create and sell their own stories. He holds a B.Sc. (Honours) degree in Applied Physics from Laurentian University and a M.Sc. in Geophysics from the University of Western Ontario and has undertaken graduate literary studies at the University of Sheffield. He is also a licensed ham radio operator.
